MUSCLE SHOALS– North Alabama Shoals Hospital recently announced that Beth Smith, RN Case Manager at the J.W. Sommer Rehabilitation Unit, has been recognized as the facility’s 2024 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.
Smith has been at J.W. Sommer Rehab since the unit opened in 2004. The facility recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary.
“Beth has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and a willingness to exceed expectations to assist patients in her role at the J.W. Sommer Rehabilitation Unit,” said Braxton Holloway, Associate Administrator at North Alabama Shoals Hospital. “Her positive demeanor, infectious personality and selfless actions have earned her respect and admiration from everyone at our facility.”
A native of the Florence area, Smith is known for her work ethic and commitment to patients. She has been known to go above and beyond her normal job duties in order to ensure patients have the best possible experience.
“I have known Beth for approximately 10 years and have experiences firsthand her level of commitment, said Beth Loften, Chief Nursing Officer at North Alabama Shoals Hospital. “
She is dedicated to ensuring all transitions of care are in place prior to patients returning home. She truly has a servant’s heart. Her coworkers know they can call Beth at any time, whether after hours or weekends, and she will answer the phone.”
Each facility winner, including North Alabama Shoals Hospital, will be considered for Lifepoint’s 2024 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August.
