NAMC delivered an unprecedented number of babies this year solidifying its position as a premier choice for would-be mothers across the Shoals community
FLORENCE-Labor and delivery teams at North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) have been busy delivering an unprecedented number of babies this year. The hospital averages about 110 deliveries a month, and welcomed 1,345 babies in 2022 in total, including 15 set of twins.
“November especially, was a record-breaking month for us with 139 babies delivered. The previous record high was in the 160s from the 1980s,” shared Nikki Woods, MSN, RN, the Director of NAMC’s Center for Women’s and Children’s Health. “We are so happy to serve our community as local families welcome new babies into the world!”
NAMC’s Center for Women’s and Children’s Health offers a unique birth experience with a focus on quality care and comforting services. The facility features nine (9) all-private delivery suites, including two HOPE Suite Delivery Rooms, outfitted with birthing tubs, where patients can experience a natural delivery experience if they choose. Cesarean operating rooms are available on the L&D floor, and the unit is staffed by six (6) board-certified OBGYN’s, a lactation consultant and thirty-nine (39) nurses with a combined 100-plus years of experience in L&D. The facility also allows doulas to come with patients and features a Level II special care nursery, which means that it can typically care for babies born at 32 weeks and above.
“The physicians greatly appreciate the nurses and techs working so hard and pulling together as a team. They are the backbone that supports us through such an endeavor,” shared Dr. Daphne Jones, Chief OBGYN at NAMC.
The Center for Women’s and Children’s Health at North Alabama Medical Center also offers gynecological services, prenatal classes, 24/7 nursery support, and specialized medical equipment for newborns. Virtual tours of the facility as well as the special care nursery and HOPE suites, as well as additional information on OBGYN services can be found at namccares.com/obgyn.
