Norma Jane Howton, age 88 of Sumiton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2022.She was the oldest of 7 children. She was a coal miner’s daughter born in the mining camp located in Alden, AL. Norma Jane was a graduate of Minor High School. After graduation she married and gave birth to one daughter. She and her husband later owned a shoe store in St. Clair County. Norma was gentle and kind. She was a lady in every sense of the word. She was a bit prissy. Norma Jane loved her high heels and rouge. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister. Norma Jane devoted her life to taking care of her family. She spent most of her time in the kitchen either cooking her delicious cinnamon or cheese drop biscuits or sitting at the kitchen table visiting with her family and friends. Norma Jane was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church. Above all things she was a devoted Christian woman. Her family rests in the comfort that she is now in heaven. Norma Jane is preceded in death by her husband Jesse Layfayette; siblings, Donnie Brasher, Buck Brasher, Peggy Davis (L.D), Mack Brasher and Butch Brasher. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Savage (Roger); brother, O’Neal “Cookie” Brasher (Wanda); sisters-in-law, Donna Brasher, Sandra Brasher and Connie Brasher; grandchildren, Michael Savage, Jane-Marie Jackson (Brian); great-grandchildren, Lanie Savage (Payton), Nicholas Savage and Lauren Savage, Jesslyn Jackson, Rhett Jackson and Johanna Jackson; great-great grandchildren, Aiden Savage and Colt Savage as well a s a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A graveside service to honor her life will be held at Crestview Memorial Gardens on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 12pm. Her grandchildren Jane-Marie and Brian Jackson will officiate.
