Norma Fredericy Jumper, of Gadsden AL, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the age of 87. She died peacefully, surrounded by members of her family. Mrs. Jumper was born on November 12, 1934, in Williamsport, PA, to Florence and Earl Fredericy.
Norma loved that her hometown of Williamsport is host to the historic Little League World Series. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1952. Upon graduation, Norma worked for Bell South Telephone Co. in Arlington, Virginia. There she met and married Alton (Al) Jumper. Al and Norma moved south, eventually settling in Gadsden in 1968, where they raised their four children. Mrs. Jumper was a dedicated and supportive wife during her husband’s 30-year career with Alfa Insurance. She enjoyed travel and the many trips she was able to take with Al, family, and dear friends.
Norma was an intelligent, resourceful, and caring woman who spent many years working within the PTA, serving several schools as their liaison to the Gadsden City School’s superintendent’s office. She also procured the agreement with residents that allowed the paving of Nottingham Dr. used by students walking to the former Mitchell Satellite Elementary School. Norma loved nature and was an enthusiastic and well-regarded member of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club. She was a faithful and active member of Grace Bible Church in Rainbow City for many years.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband (Al), daughter (Lisa Jumper Brown), mother, father, sisters (Shirley and Retha), and brother (Raymond). She is survived by her three children, daughters Cindy Jumper Acuff (Lin) of Roswell, GA, Gail Jumper Berkowitz of Huntsville, and son Bud Jumper of Lawrenceville, GA; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She will be missed as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Pallbearers will be Bud Jumper, son-in-law Lin Acuff, and grandsons Sims Acuff, Matt Acuff, Will Acuff and Wilson Berkowitz.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Ken Gourlay officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Following the services, the family will host a time of fellowship celebrating Norma’s life at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Big Cove, AL. Light refreshments will be served.
