Nolan Ray “Buck” Denton was peacefully called home to heaven September 1, 2023, with his beloved wife of 49 years by his side in Florence, Alabama.

Buck was born to Elsie Watson Denton and William Ira Denton on February 15, 1941, the third of four children. He is predeceased by his parents, older brother Morris Denton, and younger brother, Stanley Denton. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sanders Denton; sons, Keith Denton (Michele) and Kevin Denton (Barbara); grandsons, Trevor Denton, Matthew Denton (Sallie), Stephen Denton (Caroline), and Philip Denton; two great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Denton Handley; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind many dear friends.

Buck lived most of his life in Colbert County, no more than a half-hour’s drive from the place he was always proud to call home, Cherokee, Alabama. He raised his family in Sheffield and worked for Ford Motor Company at the Sheffield plant until its closure, then at plants in Sharonville, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia. A farmer at heart, Buck retired from Ford after 30 years of service, and spent the next 30 years doing what he truly loved: raising goats and other small farm animals, tending his garden and orchard, and becoming a champion beekeeper and honey producer. He was a member at several area Baptist churches through the years and in his call as a deacon he remained aware of widows who could benefit from things he could share from his garden and his beehives. He was always happy to have visits from friends and relatives and often sent them home with fresh vegetables or a pint of honey and a request to come back again.

Visitation will be Saturday September 9, 2023, from 10 a.m. to noon at Morrison Funeral Home, 825 N Main St., Tuscumbia, Alabama. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers are Trevor Denton, Matthew Denton, Stephen Denton, Philip Denton, and Shane Nipper. Rodney Hallmark, Buck’s dearest long-time friend, will serve as honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Shoals Women’s Clinic or the charity of your choice.
