Nina Mae Champion Payne, age 92 of Decherd, passed away on April 1, 2020 at St Thomas West in Nashville. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 10, 1927 to the late Charles Russell and Argie Maude (Fears) Champion. A dedicated homemaker, she enjoyed reading and sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. Nina will be remembered for her contagious smile, and her loving and kind nature. She was a devoted member of Greenhaw Baptist Church, where she gave her life to the Lord over seventy-four years ago, and served as past Sunday School Teacher and Choir member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Payne; and siblings, Howard Champion, Parker Champion, Rudy Champion, and Geneva Gipson; and grandson, James W. Curtis. Nina is survived by her loving children, Reba Denton of Winchester, Linda (Thomas) Hall of Winchester, James Ray (Patsy) Payne of Decherd, Charley (Gaye) Payne of Winchester, and Robbie (Kim) Payne of Decherd; grandchildren, Tommy Curtis, Renee Bates, Angie Sowers, Lee Hall, Johnny Payne, Jason Payne, Nathan Payne, Julie Scott, Levi Payne, and Josh Payne; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Johnny (Elsie) Champion of Tullahoma, and Mary Garland of Winchester; and a host of nieces and nephews. A private service is planned with burial at Mt. Garner Cemetery. Funeral Services will be live-streamed on Facebook at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 6, 2020 on the Moore-Cortner page.
