SHEFFIELD-“Boys and girls of every age, would you like to see something strange?” The Ritz Theatre is hosting an interactive screening of the creepy classic The Nightmare Before Christmas on Friday, Oct. 22 and Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7:00 pm! Watch Jack Skellington and his Halloween Town buddies make Christmas creepy, all while you boo, scream, and use fun props along with the film. This event is perfect for all ages of fans of the movie.
Tickets are $13 each and are available at tennesseevalleyarts.org/nightmare.
The evening will begin with local actor Nick Grigsby performing a dramatic reading of Tim Burton’s original 1982 poem, which served as the inspiration for the film. Everyone will receive an interactive kit with a script and props. Then, the audience will enjoy the movie on the theatre’s big screen, and the script will provide simple prompts for when to yell, make spooky sounds, or use one of the props. (For instance, the audience will laugh like a witch anytime a witch appears on screen).
Costumes, as well as decorated or spooky face masks, are encouraged. Everyone in a costume or with a Halloween-themed mask will get a trick-or-treat goodie bag to enjoy for the trip home.

“We’re really excited to offer this chance for fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas to enjoy the film in a new way,” said Jennifer Butler Keeton, the marketing director at the Tennessee Valley Art Association, which operates the Ritz Theatre.
“Our goal for this event is for it to be a fun Halloween celebration. Multiple generations have fallen in love with the movie’s groundbreaking visuals and themes about embracing who you really are. This is an opportunity for people all ages to be spooky and weird together while watching one of their favorite films.”
Masks are required, and there are two showings to allow for better distancing.
In order to ensure a seat and an interactive kit, attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online, by calling 256-383-0533, or stopping by the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art.
Tickets will also be available at the door, but may be limited.
