Obituary of SGM (Ret.) Tyrone E. NeyNey, Tyrone E. of Athens Alabama passed away on December 14, 2023, after a courageous battle with heart disease. He is preceded in death by his parents Elmer Ney and Charlotte Burns, Stepfather Lowell Burns, and Stepbrother Butch Burns. He was honored to be accepted as a son into the family of Lonnie and Loudean Burch who also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his lifetime best friend and love Patricia Clark, Son Morgan “Rusty” (Page) Ney, Daughter Kimberly Ney (Paul Walsh), step sister Janie (Kenneth) Burns-Goad Grandchildren Matthew (Kelsey) Blevins, and Lacey (Justin) Elrod, Great Grandchildren Maxon Machmuller Elrod and Coco Elrod, Patricia’s sons Kenneth (Beth) Clark and Gary (Emily) Clark, extended grandchildren Megan (Steven), Melanie, Meredith and Jillian Clark along with numerous cousins and extended family members including the Zufall and Gragg families.

Born and raised in the Canton/Alliance Ohio area, Sgt Major Ney having served faithfully and honorably is a Retired Veteran of the US Army EOD. Upon completing his service in the Army, he became an independent owner/operator of TEN Trucking for the next 27 years.

Ty enjoyed traveling the country with Pat in their motor home. He enjoyed and made it a priority to attend the annual EOD Convention. He also enjoyed spending time with his children in Florida and North Carolina as well as family in the Ohio area. He spent a lot of time with Pat in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area exploring the Great Smokey Mountains. He was an avid fan of the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) football team and enjoyed Saturday College Football and camaraderie with friends and family.

Ty was a very hard working and honorable man. Living his life to the highest morals and standards always doing the right thing. He held his family and friends to the same high standards. Knowing Ty meant you had a true and trusted friend that would always be willing to lend a hand in times of need and he would always stay in touch with you. He had a witty sense of humor and always spoke the truth. If you did not want to know the truth, then you were best not to ask him. He was a true hero who led by example.

You may visit with the family on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 4:00pm until 5:30pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL 35811. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 5:30pm in Valhalla’s Celebration Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warriors or the American Heart Association.

Sgt. Major Ney will be laid to rest, with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
