Funeral for Newton Jasper Filyaw III “JR”, 84, of Hillsboro will be Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Bennett and Rev. Barry Cater officiating. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Filyaw, who died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Huntsville Hospital, was born Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1931, to Newton Jasper Filyaw II and Eula Mae McBride Filyaw. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Lawrence County High School, served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Robinson Destroyer from 1951-1955 as a gunner’s mate and helmsman, retired supervisor from Monsanto after 30 years. He was a cattle farmer and raised catfish for the market. He also enjoyed traveling, Alabama football and family and friends. His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Gillespie Filyaw; two daughters, Cindy (Jamie) Compton and Debbie Filyaw; sister, Jeanette Filyaw Austin; two granddaughters, Whitney Lane Compton and Heidi (Ryan) Compton McKinney; and two great-grandchildren, Compton Mullican and Josie McKinney.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
