ATHENS – Alabama Department of Workforce staff joined state Senator Arthur Orr and other area workforce development leaders in North Alabama for a ribbon cutting to open a new Career Center at Athens State University.

“We are grateful for the cooperation and assistance provided by Athens State University, Senator Arthur Orr, and the entire north Alabama workforce community in bringing this Career Center to Athens,” said Workforce Secretary Greg J. Reed. “The center will benefit residents and employers and will help provide necessary resources, direction, and assistance to enhance the area’s economy and development.”

Senator Arthur Orr (R) – Limestone County said, “This is a great partnership between State Government and a State institution, to have this presence on campus that help all the citizens of Limestone County and Beyond.”

“The first day people walk in they can get help. This is exciting for the people and the employers here in Limestone County,” said Representative Danny Crawford (R) – Limestone County.

Athens State University President Dr. Catherine Wehlburg echoed these statements, saying, “We are so excited and thrilled to be able to partner with Workforce Alabama – Athens State University is known for our advance workforce preparations and the work that we do to help educate our students and partner with our community to continue to have growth. This is a step further in that direction.”

The new center is located on Athens State University’s campus in Chasteen Hall. Its hours of operation are: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Career Center will be operated by the Workforce Pathways Division of the Alabama Department of Workforce and will offer a full range of services to both jobseekers and employers, including: resume assistance, job placement services, educational and vocational training assistance, employee pre-screening, and more.
