Nell Gray Thompson Fitzgerald Nell Gray Thompson Fitzgerald, 101, resident of Murfreesboro, died Thursday April 2, 2020 at her residence.

A private family graveside service for Mrs. Fitzgerald will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born January 24, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Homer Moses Thompson and the late Mary Ellen Merony Thompson. On June 29, 1941, she married Reverend Curtis Richard Fitzgerald, who preceded her in death on January 21, 1972. Mrs. Fitzgerald worked with the Red Cross Blood Donation Drive for 35 years, and also volunteered at Maury Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Jane Knox chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the Captain James Madison Sparkman chapter UDC, and she was a very skilled in needlework. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church and also Highland Park Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Dr. Ron) Smith of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Col. Stephen G. (Laura) Smith of Eva, AL and Karen Denise Smith (Brian) Killen of Murfreesboro, TN; great grandchildren, Cody (Faith) Smith of Auburn, AL and Sydney Smith (Mason) Murphy of Alabaster, AL, Dillon Killen of Murfreesboro, TN, and Katie Killen of Murfreesboro, TN.
