Nela Ellen Romine Howell, 97, of Anderson passed away Thursday, December 10th, 2015 at her residence. She was a Christian and the oldest, lifelong member of Hurricane Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed fishing, music, cooking and dancing the jitter bug. She was an avid gardener and loved her tractor and bush hog.
The visitation will be Monday, December 14th, 2015 from 11 – 1 at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow in the chapel with Jimmy Cox and James Waddell officiating. Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon Howell, Randy Schneider, Ken Schneider, Mike King, Mark King, Steve Haraway, Stacy Haraway, Shawn Haraway, Chip Towry and Brian Howell.
Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wiley Romine and Lillie Vandella Romine Belue; husband, William Luster Howell; daughter, Martha Ellen Howell King Henson; grandson, Christopher Alan Howell; brothers, Delona Romine, Jesse Romine, Buell Romine, Otha Romine and Edward Romine; step-sisters, Birdie Carpenter and Beatrice Ingrum. She is survived by her children, W. L. Howell, Jr., Areeda Howell Schneider (Joe) Stampley; Darry Howell (Ted) Towry and Roger Dale Howell; grandchildren, Darryl Howell, Cheryl Howell (Terry) Whaley, Shannon Howell, Jodi Howell, Brian Howell, Carolyn Howell, Steve (Donna) Haraway, Stacy (Kris) Haraway, Shawn (Kim) Haraway, Chip (Caitlin) Towry, Mike (Carol) King, Mark King, Debbie King (Coop) Evans, Ken Schneider and Randy (Susan) Schneider; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; half-brother, James Oliver Belew and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hurricane Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
