ice-on-branch (2)TUPELO– A traveler advisory is in effect for the Natchez Trace Parkway from Tupelo, MS at MS state highway 4 (milepost 297) through Alabama to the Tennessee Terminus (milepost 442).

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and advisories for these areas. A mixture of sleet, freezing rain, ice and snow can be expected beginning Monday and extending into Tuesday evening. The greatest area of impact on the Parkway is expected to be between Tupelo, MS and Leipers Fork, TN.

The Parkway is currently experiencing ice and snow from north MississippiPARK-CLOSED to the northern terminus, in Tennessee. Consequently, the Parkway is closed from milepost 429 to the northern Tennessee terminus at milepost 442. The closure will be in effect immediately, February 16, 2015. The Parkway will remain closed until the roadway is clear of snow and ice.

Motorists are advised to avoid using the Parkway during periods of winter weather due to the possibility of icing on the road surfaces and bridges. In addition, lower traffic counts on the Parkway mean that any icing or snow will take longer to melt than on more heavily used roads.
