ATHENS-Alabama-born and self-taught musician Lindsey Hinkle is returning to her home state on Saturday for a free
community concert as part of the Art After Hours music series.

She will perform Saturday, May 23, from 7-9 p.m. at Scout House, home of Athens Arts League. The concert,
originally planned for The Square, will move indoors because of anticipated storms.

Lindsey Hinkle

Hinkle, born in Piedmont, Ala., has been creating her own songs since she was 13 years old. She currently lives
and writes music in Nashville. She has opened for artists such as Keith Urban, Lady A, Sugarland, Little Big
Town, Marc Broussard, Darius Rucker and Indigo Girls. In December 2021, Hinkle was mentioned in Billboard
and People magazines for co-writing Drake White’s “Power of a Woman” alongside her lifelong friend Kelli
Johnson.

She has said her music journey began when she saw a Lake Placid Blue Fender Stratocaster while browsing in
a music store. The money she was saving for a car – that her parents said would never happen – went instead
to purchase a guitar.

For Hinkle, that guitar led her to songwriting, which she described as a coping mechanism, allowing her to
articulate her emotions.

The public is invited to enjoy the singer-songwriter night with Hinkle at Scout House, located at 313 E.
Washington Street adjacent to Big Spring Memorial Park, just east of The Square. The event is free and
sponsored by State of Alabama Tourism through Sen. Tim Melson, City of Athens, Athens-Limestone Tourism
Association and Morell Engineering.

Additional Art After Hours events will be held:
 June 6 from 7-9 p.m. on The Square with Borderline Band, old school country with some funk and rock
“thrown in”; includes an art station for children.
 July 3 from 7-9 p.m. on The Square with JED-Eye and the Rocket City Starlets; this will be part of the
July 3-4 Red, White and Boom Weekend, a celebration of America’s 250 th ; includes an art station for
children and a special art project honoring Jackson Pollock.
