Nancy Rhea Hodges Simon, aged 75, of Laguna Beach, Florida, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026. Born and raised in Birmingham, AL, she moved to Sylacauga after marrying her husband, Charles J. Simon, Jr., who preceded her in death. They had been married 55 years. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, putting together puzzles, doing crafts and sending gifts to everyone she loved. She loved dogs, especially her two chihuahuas Spanky and Darly, the beach, shopping and sweets of all kinds. She enjoyed spending time with her neighbors, Carole, Dot, and Robbin, and longtime friend, Janice Greer.
Nancy was the only child of Wendall Rayburn and Lela Adams Hodges, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children: Chris Simon of São Paulo, Brazil; Susan Ogle (Brad) of Eastaboga, AL; and Andrew Simon (Jessica) of Bogart, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: David Presley, Max Simon, Erica Ogle, Trisha Ogle, Lela Simon, Natalie Simon, and John Hodges Simon, as well as a niece, Emily Simon and great nieces Gwen and Norah Patterson. Other survivors include her cousins, Sue Wind, Jan Dickson, and Saran Scott.
Throughout her life she worked at several jobs including First National Bank, First Methodist Kindergarten and various daycare centers.
Nancy was a believer in Jesus Christ, and knew where she would reside when she left this world. A Presbyterian by faith, she helped found Knollwood Presbyterian Church in Sylacauga, AL in 1977.
The family would like to thank all of their dear friends and family for their support during this difficult time. A special thanks to Kelsey and Michael, two of her hospice caregivers.
