Nancy Lassiter Kurtz
May 15, 1935 – April 15, 2025

Nancy grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, attending Harpeth Hall Preparatory School and graduating from Vanderbilt University. While at Vandy she met the love of her life, Herman Fletcher Kurtz, Jr. and they married in 1956. After a short move to California they moved to Huntsville in 1958 so Fletcher could go to work for NASA. In 1965 the Kurtz’s, with three children, moved to Monte Sano Mountain and stayed until 1982 when they moved to a Brindley Mountain farm, where they resided until moving to Magnolia Trace in 2016.

Nancy was always involved in her children’s activities and participated in many community activities, including Huntsville Woman’s Club, Monte Sano Woman’s Club, Monte Sano Garden Club, various PTAs, member and choir at Monte Sano and Arab Methodist churches, band parent, Huntsville High School Boosters, Red Cross volunteer, Huntsville Senior Center Board member, and Huntsville Music Club. She loved to sew, cross-stitch and was an avid reader.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Walter Marting and Mary Louise Lassiter, her husband, Fletcher and her youngest son, Walter Lassiter Kurtz.

Survivors include her son, Richard Kurtz; daughter, Laurel Kurtz; and grandsons, Fletcher Kurtz and Tristan Kurtz.

It has been said by her relatives and friends that Nancy never met a stranger and loved her Lord.

The family would like to thank the staff, especially the nurses at Magnolia Trace, Oakbridge Terrace, and Willowbrook Court for their support and care of Nancy, as well as Hospice of North Alabama.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery.
