On Friday, January 24th, Nancy Gail Coker Dickerson passed from her earthly home and entered her heavenly home for eternity. Nancy was born in Florence and spent her entire life in the Greenhill community. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Columbus Coker; mother, Dot Bevis Coker; and her beloved brother Steve Coker. We are sure that they met her with open arms. She was married for 58 years to her sweetheart, Otis Ray Dickerson. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and NaeNae to her grandchildren. She leaves behind her loving children, Dr. Adam Dickerson (Jennifer), Molly Dickerson and Aron Dickerson, her precious grandchildren, Braxton and Sydney Dickerson, who were the light of her life and brought her so much joy and pride, and her brother, Tommy Coker. Nancy was a faithful member of Atlas Church of Christ and loved her church family. She developed a love of cooking at an early age. She discovered that she had a hidden talent for cake decorating and cooking. In more than 55 years, she baked hundreds of birthday cakes, wedding cakes and catering of events for people in the Shoals area and other states. Aside from working with the family cattle business and her full-time jobs, Nancy somehow found time to volunteer for many other roles within the community. She was a devoted and hands on mom with all of the kid’s school, athletic and extracurricular activities. She loved her “4-H kids” as she volunteered, traveled with and assisted many children in their formative years through various 4-H programs. Serving as President of the Lauderdale County Cattlewomen’s Association for many years, Nancy was an advocate of the beef industry and supporting local farmers. She was elected to serve as the President of the State Cattlewomen’s Association and attended meetings across the state to share and promote the beef industry and received awards for her service. She also served as President of the Alfa Women’s Committee and President of the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. After 20 years, she retired from the Lauderdale County Extension program where she shared her love of cooking by teaching food and nutrition classes to expectant moms. She also loved the Greenhill Senior Citizens where she served as President for several years. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Atlas Church of Christ on Monday, January 27th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at 1:00 pm with brother Matthew Heupel and brother Miles Stutts officiating. The body will lie in state 1 hour before the funeral and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will include Aron Dickerson, Braxton Dickerson, Randy Meyer, Philip Gambrell, Caleb Gray and Johnny Gist. Honorary pallbearers include Rex Coker, Mickey Coker, Jim Phillips, and Mike Bevis. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Helen Keller ICU nurses and doctors for the loving care of our dear wife and mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Alabama Children’s Home.
