Nancy Elizabeth Christy UnderwoodNancy Elizabeth Christy Underwood, 64, passed away November 2, 2023, at Baptist Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born January 30, 1959, in Montgomery, AL to Willis David “Bill” and Velma Johnson Christy and grew up in the Lone Star community of Union County. Nancy was a 1977 graduate of Ingomar High School and worked in various furniture industries most of her adult life and in the cafeteria at North Pontotoc School before retiring due to needs at home. She was a master seamstress in mending, altering, and creating. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, crafting, embroidering, and nurturing her many green plants. She loved feeding her numerous hummingbird visitors. She took great joy in making dresses, dolls, and various other items for, as well as pack, boxes for Operation Christmas Child. She loved her fur baby Poptart and nurtured many other pups belonging to family and friends as well as any cats or dogs that wandered up to her back door seeking shelter and comfort. She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in the local pond at age eleven. She was a faithful member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Pontotoc County where she was active in all phases of church ministry. She was a caregiver to her family, whom she loved dearly, as well as her friends.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Underwood, of New Albany; sons, Shay Roberts of New Albany and Adam Roberts (Nine) of Austin, TX; bonus daughters, Sandy Cornet of Killeen, TX and Shirley Montes (Carlos) of Pontotoc; sisters, Janice Christy Ecklein (Rick) of Salem, SD, Nita Christy Robbins (Phil) of Pontotoc, and Kay Sloan Matkins (Billy) of New Albany; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her bonus mom, Geraldine Dowdy Sloan Christy; and her brothers, David Christy, Leonard Christy, and Willis Calvin “Bill” Christy.
Services will be Friday, November 3, 2023, at 4PM at Oakdale Baptist Church with Bro. Steven Newell officiating. Visitation will begin at 2PM and continue to service time. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Phil Robbins, Phillip Robbins, Billy Matkins, Chris Matkins, Steve Martin, and Mike Wise.
