Nancy Baxter Skidmore, age 69, of Guntersville, Alabama passed away on April 6 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 5, 1951 to Lloyd and Jenny Lou Baxter in Spring Hill Tennessee.
Nancy was an educator, earning a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University and a master’s degree from UAH. She started teaching 4th grade at Claysville School and later became a librarian. She was Educator of the Year in 1997.
Nancy loved reading and shared that passion with her students. She was always up for an adventure and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. The beach and the mountains were here favorite destinations. More than anything, Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Nancy was a member of the Guntersville Church of Christ for 40 years. She was a member of Lady Civitan and instrumental in raising money for Every Child’s Playground.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Harold Skidmore; sons, Brent Skidmore (Lori) and Kevin Skidmore (Jill); grandchildren, Sarah Nan, Hudson, Turner, Oliver, and Millie; and brother, David Baxter.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Buchanan and Joyce Petty ; and brother, Lloyd Baxter.
The family will receive friends at the Church of Christ in Guntersville on Thursday, April 8th, at 11-1pm with the funeral service following at 1pm. Interment will be at Guntersville City Cemetary. Rev. Phillip Bradley will officiate. Pallbearers are David Crafton, Michael Crafton, Ray Jenkins, Rip Baxter, Jason Skidmore, and Trevor Lockhart.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartlite Hospice, Church of Christ (Benevolence House) or GFUMC (Little Lights Special Needs ministry).
