Myrtle Couch Black, born in Winfield, Alabama, was a very strong woman who believed in Family, Friends, Teaching and helping others. She attended Oklahoma University where she met and married Thomas L. Black. They had three children: Bettye Jean, Thomas Jr. and Judith Anne. Myrtle graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in childhood education, and became a Special Ed teacher at Ridgecrest Elementary School until retirement. She also did substitute teaching after retirement. Myrtle believed that “idle hands were the devil’s workshop”, and seldom slowed down. She loved to cook, garden, can foods, sew, quilt, crochet & read. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, son & daughter Bettye. She is survived by eight grand-children and several great-grand-children. Visitation for Myrtle will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Valhalla Funeral Home.
