Mrs. Myrtis Inez HancockMyrtis Inez Hancock, aged 91, of Douglas, peacefully passed away on March 24, 2024. Born on July 28, 1932, to the late Lemual and Bessie Gilmer.
She was a cherished longtime member of Welcome Home First Congregational Methodist Church. Myrtis spent over 25 years diligently serving at Boaz Albertville Hospital, leaving an indelible mark on those she cared for and worked alongside.
Myrtis is survived by her children, Walter Hancock Jr., David Hancock, and Vicky Vaughn (Kim); her son-in-law, Kenneth Kennamer; grandchildren, Jessica Johnson (Jeremy) and Nikki Vaughn; and great-grandchild, Konner. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who held her dear to their hearts.
In addition to her parents, Myrtis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Walter Hancock Sr., and her daughter, Bonnie Kennamer.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Myrtis’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Welcome Home FCM, with a lie-in-state beginning at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. Bro. Mark Howington and Bro. Clay Spears will officiate the services, followed by burial at Douglas Cemetery.
Myrtis will be remembered fondly for her unwavering faith, compassionate spirit, and profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her legacy continue to inspire love and kindness in the hearts of those she touched.
