Myrtie Sue Upchurch, age 86, went to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on June 13, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Born on October 29, 1938 to Shelton & Lois Johnson in Boaz, Alabama.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, James Upchurch; and her parents, Shelton & Lois Johnson.
She leaves behind her cherished children Rodney (Donna) Upchurch of Valley Head, AL, Regina (Dan) Hamblen of Vonore, TN, and Renee Upchurch of Chattanooga, TN.
She was nanny to her beloved grandchildren, Derek (Alexis) Hamblen, AJ Hamblen and Coby Hamblen, all of Nashville, TN; Darian Lindsey of Fairbanks, AK, Chapin Price of Chattanooga, TN, and Ben (Caitlin) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; along with two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Tatum Hamblen of Nashville, TN.
Sue was from a large hardworking family of nine siblings and is survived by her only living sister, Judy Hayes of Tuscaloosa, AL.
Sue was the past Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star of Harrison, TN and long-term member of Bartlebaugh Baptist Church of Harrison, TN, and First Baptist Church of Ft. Payne, AL where she was involved with the Golden Circle. She worked at Loveman’s Dept. Store, Olan Mills, Eye Ear Optical of Hixson, and Big Ridge Cleaners.
Sue loved the Lord and lived her life as an example to all who knew her. She was the heart of our family and set an example with her faith and hard work.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. CST, Friday, June 20, 2025 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Marshall Henderson officiating. Eulogies will be given by her grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. hour of service. Burial will be 3 p.m., CST, Friday at the Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Aveanna Hospice that took care of Sue over the last few years.
