FLORENCE—Muscle Shoals Music Camp, a day camp for high schoolers hosted primarily at the University of North Alabama’s School of the Arts and the Department of Entertainment Industry facilities, will be Monday-Friday, June 10-14.

Applications are available at muscleshoalsmusiccamp.com. Deadline to submit applications is Monday, April 1, organizers said.

Campers will study songwriting, recording technology, the music business and the history of Muscle Shoals music. The curriculum includes field trips to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound recording studios plus workshops and panel discussions.

In addition, students will be formed into bands. During the week, they’ll work together to write and record original songs. Students will perform their original music for the public at 5:30 p.m., Friday, June 14, in UNA’s Mane Room.

Instructors include UNA faculty as well as local music professionals.

“We are so excited about sharing the history of Muscle Shoals music and about offering the valuable opportunities to work with UNA faculty and community members during the camp,” said Carrie Crawford, director of the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, which is helping sponsor the camp. “This is a chance for students to go behind the scenes and learn from the best in the music business.”

Cost of the camp is $250, which includes meals as well as transportation and admission to field-trip sites. Deadline for payment is Friday, May 10.
