Multi-Vehicle Accident Takes Life Of Huntsville Man

GURLEY-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports a multi-vehicle accident has taken the life of one person and sent 4 others to hospital with injuries:

“A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:58 p.m. Saturday, September 13, has claimed the life of a Huntsville man and injured four others.

Walter Stephens III, 64, was critically injured when the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon he was driving collided head-on with a 2020 Honda Pilot driven by Jefford S. Wright, 45, of Huntsville. After the initial impact, the Tiburon then collided head-on with a 2011 Toyota Highlander driven by Kathy Rena Barker Garth, 62, of Decatur. Stephens was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment. On Thursday, October 2, Stephens succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Jefford S. Wright, the driver of the Pilot, was injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment. Ashley S. Wright, 38, of Huntsville, who was a passenger in the Pilot, was also injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital. A 1-year-old, who was also a passenger in the Pilot, was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Garth, the driver of the Highlander, was also injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment.

The crash occurred on U.S. 72 near the 110 mile marker, approximately three miles northwest of Gurley, in Madison County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
