Multi-Vehicle Accident Takes Life Of Holly Pnd Woman; Two Others Injured

HOLLY POND-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency report a multi-vehicle accident near Holly Pond has taken the life of one person and sent two others to hospital with injuries:

“A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, has claimed the life of a Holly Pond woman.

Betty C. Benefield, 88, was fatally injured when the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, that she was a passenger in, collided head-on with a 1997 Mack truck driven by John J. Davidson, 38, of Cullman. After the initial impact, the Chevrolet was then struck by a 2021 Ram 1500 driven by Jeffery S. Kanaday, 55, of Hanceville. Betty C. Benefield was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Charles E. Benefield, 88, also of Holly Pond, was injured and transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment. Kanaday was also injured and transported to Cullman Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for treatment.

The crash occurred on U.S. 278 near Cullman County 1640, approximately four miles west of Holly Pond, in Cullman County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
