THE SHOALS-Show off your best friends with the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area’s new Bark Ranger
program – designed especially for dogs and their humans who like to get outside.

“Within our six counties, there are countless parks, hiking & biking trails, camping and water-
related recreation,” said MSNHA Programs Coordinator Jessie Johnson. “Our new BARK
Ranger program encourages pet owners to take their four-legged friends with them while also
embracing stewardship for our natural landscape!”

To participate, first pick up a Bark Ranger pamphlet at MSNHA’s office, 541 W. College St.,
Florence, or one of our partner locations: Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, Decatur, and Cane
Creek Canyon Nature Preserve, Tuscumbia. You can also download and print the pamphlet at
our website, https://msnha.una.edu/.

“Then pick your MSNHA destination and enjoy! Inside the pamphlet are pledges for both dogs
and owners to sign, promising that they were excellent stewards of northwest Alabama’s
outdoors,” Johnson said. “And don’t forget to snap pictures so we can share on our social media
with our hashtag #msnhabarkranger.”

Send (mail to UNA Box 5231, Florence AL 35632 or email to msnha@una.edu) or bring photos
and completed pamphlets to the MSNHA office to receive exclusive Bark Ranger swag.

“Taking your pet with you not only allows them to gain important enrichment but also
encourages pet owners to slow down and truly embrace the unique beauty of northwest
Alabama,” Johnson added.
