WAYNE COUNTY, TN – On February 21, 2019, at approximately 03:20 am, the Parkway received a phone call reporting a single vehicle collision with fatality near mile marker 343, in Wayne County, Tennessee.
The vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Charger, was operated by Justin Nance, 21, of De Kalb, MS. Preliminary information indicates that Nance was traveling northbound on the Parkway when the vehicle left the roadway on the west side and struck a tree. Nance and an 18-month-old juvenile who was in the back seat were transported to North Alabama Medical Center. The front passenger was identified as Rayshon Ewing, 18, of Prairie, MS, and the rear passenger was identified as Daneisha Townsend, 19, of Okolona, MS. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The collision is currently under investigation by Parkway rangers and a
reconstruction of the incident will be performed to determine the cause. “This is the second and third fatalities we’ve had this week, and this incident occurred only seven miles from the one we had on Sunday,” said Chief Ranger Sarah Davis. Rangers have noticed an uptick in fatalities in the Alabama and Tennessee areas of the Parkway. “We do not know what is causing the spike, but rangers will be out on patrol to enforce the speed limit and other traffic laws.”
