DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department release a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect on charges of Chemical Endangerment of A child:

“On December 24th 2015, Amanda Darlene Carpenter gave birth to a baby boy at Decatur-Morgan Hospital Parkway Campus. At the time of the infant’s birth he tested positive for Marihuana and Methamphetamine. A joint investigation was conducted by the Morgan County Department of Human Resources as well as the Decatur Police Department.

At the conclusion of the investigation it was determined that Amanda Carpenter had taken Methamphetamine and Marihuana during her pregnancy, fully aware that she was pregnant at the time.

On February 22nd 2016, at approximately 9:15 am Det. Birchfield obtained a warrant for Amanda Carpenter’s arrest for the charge of Chemical Endangerment of a Child.

On February 23rd 2016, at approximately 10:55 am, Amanda Carpenter turned herself into the Decatur Police Department. She was escorted and booked into the Decatur City Jail where she was arrested and charged with Chemical Endangerment of a Child.

She was transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $2,500.00 bond.

It is unknown at this time if the child will suffer any long-term effects or disabilities as a result of the drug exposure.”
