FLORENCE-Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts presents Mostly Blues, a soulful exhibition of paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed media pieces by area artists that visually interpret and pay homage to the power of music.  Invited artists from Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties have distinct interpretations that celebrate this area’s ties to the music world. The exhibit opens July 03, 2017 and will be on display through August 03, 2017. We also would like to invite everyone to the Mostly Blues artists’ reception July 6, 2017 at 6 PM to meet and mingle with the artists.

The annual exhibit, Mostly Blues, began in 1994 to honor W.C. Handy, the “Father of the Blues.” Music-themed fine art, folk art, and design will fill the art center’s main gallery as we gear up for the annual W.C. Handy Music Festival.

This Mostly Blues exhibit will feature artwork by Ree Shannon, Rachel Wakefield, Martha Beadle, Marianthe Snyder, Taylor Dockery, Eric Freshour, The Shoals Artist Guild, Krena Poole, Helen Allman, Brian Dean, Lane May, Terry McGee, Mark Chamblee, Tara Bullington, Shannon Wells, Josh Johnston, Tim Stevenson, Jonathan Cain, Tabatha Jarmulowicz and more!

Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is located at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. and is open, free of charge, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This event is sponsored by the Florence Department of Arts and Museums. Call 256-760-6379 for more information.
