DECATUR-The Morgan County Commission, in partnership with several local organizations, will host the America 250 Community Celebration on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 5-7 pm, offering a free, family-friendly evening of activities designed to highlight local history and bring residents together.

The celebration is being planned collaboratively with The Alabama Center for the Arts, Downtown Redevelopment Authority, the Morgan County Archives, and local community partners. Each partner is contributing programming and expertise to ensure the event reflects the county’s rich heritage and the nation’s 250-year story. This event is partially funded by a grant from the America250AL initiative. “This celebration is a chance for our community to come together to learn more about the history of Morgan County and the significance of this area in our nation’s independence,” said Ray Long, County Commission Chair.

The America 250 Community Celebration is FREE and will feature FREE HOT DOGS AND DRINKS (while supplies last) along with a wide range of hands-on and interactive activities designed to appeal to children and adults including:
• Flag Trivia Contest – A fun, fast-paced challenge testing knowledge of U.S. history and symbolism
• Scavenger Hunt – A community-wide search highlighting local landmarks and historical clues
• Sidewalk Chalk Art – Open creative space for artists of all ages
• History Button-Making – A special children’s activity where young participants design and wear their own commemorative “history buttons.”
• Patriotic Pet Contest – Bring your favorite furry friend in a patriotic costume to participate.
