Morgan County Inmate Charged With Assault 2nd After Attacking Correction Officer

MORGAN COUNTY-The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement concerning the attack on a Correction Officer at the Morgan County jail:

“On March 13, 2023, a Correction Officer in the Morgan County Jail sustained injuries during an assault by an inmate. The Corrections Officer was completing a walkthrough when an inmate failed to respond to the verbal commands of the officer. The Corrections Officer entered the cell to check on the inmate at which time the inmate jumped and attacked the Officer. Falling backward, the Corrections Officer was able to quickly secure the cell. The Officer sustained injuries to her face and a broken arm/wrist. She is currently in good spirits and recovering.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division obtained a warrant for YousefOfficer with arm in a sling Muhammad Abdi, charged with 13A-6-21 Assault 2nd. Bond $500,000.
Abdi was in jail on a previous arrest by the Decatur Police Department for Breaking and Entering an Automobile.
