Misty Dawn Pettit passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026, at the age of 49 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Though her time here was far too short, the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Above all else, Misty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her husband and children were the center of her world, and she poured every part of herself into loving, guiding, encouraging, and protecting them. Becoming a grandmother brought her a new and immeasurable joy, and she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Whether through warm hugs, comforting words, laughter around the kitchen table, or quiet acts of selfless care, she made those she loved feel safe, cherished, and deeply known.
Misty loved life’s simple joys and the people she shared them with. She was happiest out on the river, soaking in sunny days on the boat surrounded by family and friends. She also cherished girls’ trips — the laughter, late-night conversations, beach adventures, and memories made with the people she loved most. Those moments of togetherness filled her life with happiness and created memories her family and friends will forever hold close.
Misty was known for her strength, grace, and unwavering love for her family, even in the face of unimaginable hardship. Throughout her illness, she carried herself with courage and determination, showing those around her what resilience and strength truly looked like. Even during her hardest days, her focus remained on the people she loved most.
She is survived by her husband, Shane Pettit; her beloved children, Brenton Mooneyham, Slayton (Jemima) Pettit, Madysen (Alex) Steiner, and Aubrey Pettit; cherished grandchildren, Reagan and Declan Mooneyham; her mother and stepfather, Treva and Jimmy Womack; her mother-in-law, Margaret Herron; her brother, Jonathan Reagan; her sister, Jennifer (Josh) Hellmer; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her biological father, Johnny Stephenson; her adoptive father, Randy Reagan; her grandfather, John Dee Hastings; her grandmother, Faye O’Dear Murphy; her grandfather, John Stephenson; her grandmother, Sue Presnell Stephenson, father-in-law, Walter Herron, and many other loved ones whose memories she carried with her throughout her life.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Misty’s love will remain woven into our lives forever. She will be deeply missed and endlessly remembered.
