Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer And Suspect Killed In Shootout Near Alabama State Line

a shootoutIUKA,MS-A member of The Mississippi Department of Public Safety has been killed during a standoff with a suspect in Tishomingo County.

MDPS spokesman Warren Strain said details in the incident are not being released at this point, as MBI agents are on the scene in the early stages of an investigation.

Three other officers were injured and are being treated at various hospitals according to reports from the scene.The identities of the officers have not been released, but sources say the officer who was killed is a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agent.

The suspect has also been killed and his identity is also being withheld at this time.

Earlier in the evening on Friday night, February 19, it was reported that a man had taken his wife and child hostage inside a home south of Iuka, near the Alabama state line. Tishomingo County deputies, MHP and MBN were on scene according to reports from the scene.

According to witnesses when the suspect sent his wife and child out of the home, he opened fire on the officers killing one and injuring three more before he was also killed.
