Mildred (Gladys) Walker , age 85, passed from this life at home in Florence, Alabama, on December 4, 2012. Born in Stevenson, Alabama, Mildred has been a resident of Florence since she attended Florence State Teachers College in 1945. Mildred was a loving, devoted, selfless mother and grandmother. All who knew her loved her and quickly saw her kind and gentle spirit. She was the essence of love and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Friday, December 7 from 6-8 pm at Greenview Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 11 am Saturday, December 8 at Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Underwood, Associate Pastor of Highland Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, former husband, Jack Walker and her mother, Ruby Middleton of Stevenson.
She is survived by sons, Harvell J. Walker, Jr. and wife Frances of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Walker and wife Allison, of Knoxville, Tenn and Ben Walker and wife Julie of Flagstaff, Arizona; and daughters Marcia Watts and husband Dale of Atlanta, GA, Becky Wilson of Killen, and Lesa O’Brien and husband Mike of Hoover. Her grandchildren are Adrienne Hill, Jack Walker, Ashley Moore, Ryan Watts, Colby Watts, Trent Wilson, Allison O’Brien Granger, Megan O’Brien, Laura O’Brien, Whitney Walker, Zach Walker, Emma Walker, and Ellen Walker. Great grandchildren are Taylor Wilson, Porter Hill, Adeline Moore, Anna Grace Moore, Miller Moore, Jackson Walker, and Lidia Walker.
Pallbearers will be Trent Wilson, Bud Walker, James Walker, Mike O’Brien, Jack Walker III, and Dale Watts.
The family would like to express their most sincere thanks and gratitude to Southern Care Hospice staff for their genuine concern and compassionate care of Mildred.
