Mildred Elaine McCarthy – Obituary

Mildred Elaine McCarthy, 82, died Monday, January 23, 2017, at her home. She was born April 6, 1934, to Noonan and Modena Bates Franks. She worked for Charm Step and Mantachie Manufacturing and was owner of Spoodler’s Fish and Steak House in Mantachie. She was a member of Center Star Independent Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, and gardening and loved being around her children and grandchildren. She was a caregiver to many people.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Buddy Rushing and Bro. Danny Rushing officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie McCarthy (Marla) and Scotty McCarthy (Tammy), and two daughters, Wanda Thompson and Nina Miller (Buddy), all of Mantachie; one brother-in-law, Charlie McCarthy; two sisters-in-law, Jean McCarthy and Margaret Pedigo; eleven grandchildren, Shelley Farmer, Kenney Ferris, Mary Turner, Kayla Turner, Pat Thompson, Lindsey Thompson, Ben McCarthy, Madison McCarthy, Nicole Conlee, Kellie Spratlin, and Joe Johnson; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Owen “Spoodler” McCarthy; one infant daughter, Debra Ann; one brother, Milburn Franks; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Pat Thompson, Terry McCarthy, Ben McCarthy, Lindsey Thompson, Dennis Farris, and Joey Johnson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, at the funeral home.
