Mildred Caldwell Wright of Sheffield, AL, touched the face of her Lord on November 9, 2012.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Coach Walton Wright.
Mrs. Wright was born in Wilson, NC, on November 8, 1913. At the age of 3 her family moved to Des Moines, IA, where her father was Dean of the Bible College at Drake University. Mrs. Wright completed a Bachelor of Science degree in music from Drake University in 1935. She taught music and English in Iowa from 1935 to 1938. In 1938 she enrolled in Frederick Christiansen’s Choral Directing School in Northfield, MN. While visiting her sister, Elisabeth, in the summer of 1938 she met and married Coach Walton Wright of Sheffield, AL. In 1957, Mrs. Wright completed a Masters Degree in Education at the George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. She taught in the Sheffield Public School System until her retirement in 1972.
She is survived by her 3 children and son-in-law, Mary Settle and Joe Cooney, Dee Munger, and Robert Wright; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
She will be missed but never forgotten for the lessons she has instilled in many. Contributions can be made in memory of Mrs. Wright to the Mildred and Walton R. Wright Endowment of the Sheffield Education Foundation, 300 West 6th Street, Sheffield, AL 35660.
Her funeral will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday at First United Methodist Church of Sheffield. She will lie in state beginning at 1:00 p.m.. Burial will follow at KP Cemetery in Russellville.
