Milam Clifton Smallwood, 93, of Tuscumbia, Ala., passed away August 20, 2013, surrounded by his family at home. Mr. Smallwood was a devoted member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. In 1942 after service to his country, he returned to the Irons Workers Local Union No. 477, where he served 71 years. Mr. Smallwood was a Master Mason in good standing at Washington Masonic Lodge #36 for 56 years. He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority as an Assistant Construction Superintendent with over 40 years of employment.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Harrelson Smallwood, parents Ben F. and Maud Berry Smallwood, brother, Benjamin Ralph Smallwood and sister Judy Smallwood Andrews.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Smallwood Christopher and husband Charles, granddaughter, Karen Hester Terry and husband Scott, grandson, Rodney C. Hester, great-grandchildren Suzanne Terry Barnes and husband Steven, Amanda Terry, Kyle Hester, Zack Hester and Nick Hester, and one great-great grandchild, Jacob Barnes.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 12-2pm at Morrison Funeral Home Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at Morrison Chapel at 2pm with Minster Jeff Abrams officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Underwood, Forrest Smallwood, Benny Ralph Smallwood, Jerry Adams, Kyle Hester, Zack Hester and Nick Hester.
Honorary Pallbearers will be F.S. Winford, Frank Henry, John Baughman, H.D. Kimbrough and William Earl Roper.
