FLORENCE – As of 10:20 this morning, the City of Florence has a new Mayor. Joined by his family of the dais in the City Auditorium, Micky Haddock took the Oath of Office.
Once sworn in, Haddock, who served as Lauderdale County’s License Commissioner for 20 years, addressed the audience. He thanked retired Mayor Bobby Irons for his years of service to the people of the city. Haddock said he is eager to get started working for the people of Florence. Haddock saved most of his remarks for tomorrow’s regular City Council meeting.
Following the new Mayor, came the swearing in of the entire City Council.Incumbents Dick Jordan, Hermon Graham, and Andy Betterton returned for new terms in office. There are 2 new City Commissioners, Dave Smith who takes Sam Pendleton’s seat. And John Edwards, who replaces James Barnhart. Neither Pendleton nor Barnhart chose to run for reelection.
