Michael O’Brien, known affectionately to many as “Mike,” was a man whose life was defined by his generosity, compassion, and humor. Born on June 14th, 1972, in Westerly, Rhode Island, Michael was a beacon of laughter, kindness, and creativity, spreading joy to all who crossed his path. His natural gift for making others smile was only outshined by his remarkable generosity. A free spirit, Michael gave everything he had to those in need, never hesitating to lend a hand or offer a comforting word. He was a man who truly understood what it meant to love your neighbor as yourself, exemplifying the teachings of the Episcopalian Church he occasionally attended in his hometown of Westerly. Michael’s love for life was evident in his hobbies and interests. He was an ardent fan of the New England Patriots and Notre Dame, watching their games with an infectious enthusiasm that was impossible to resist. His love for golf, a pastime he shared with his father, Edwin, was another testament to his zest for life. Despite the places he lived, from Westerly, Rhode Island to Clearlake, California, and finally to Florence, Alabama, Michael’s heart was always on the field, in the game. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and his infectious laughter and creative spirit were a balm to all who knew him. However, what mattered most to Michael was his son, Ethan. In him, he found his greatest joy and purpose. Despite his own struggles and obstacles, Michael was a constant source of love and support for his son. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia O’Brien, his father, Edwin O’Brien, his step-father, Louis Luzzi, and his grandparents, Edwin and Blanche O’Brien. His love, generosity, and unforgettable humor will live on in the hearts of the loved ones he leaves behind, including his cherished son, Ethan O’Brien. As we remember Michael, we are reminded of the verse from Romans 12:10, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” This scripture perfectly encapsulates the spirit of our beloved Michael, who lived his life in service to others, always elevating those around him with his compassion, generosity, and humor. We invite you to share your memories of Michael and upload photos to the memorial page in celebration of his life. Each memory, each photo, represents a moment in time where Michael touched a life, brought a smile, or offered a helping hand. By sharing these moments, we keep his spirit alive and honor the incredible man that he was. Family will be holding a Memorial Service Friday, December 5, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at Shiloh Church of Christ in Florence.
