Michael Keith Whitaker, a beloved son, father, doting grandfather and friend, passed away on June 1, 2023, at the age of 61. He was surrounded by loved ones at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Mike was born in Corinth, MS on March 31, 1962 to the late JC and Lois Fisher Whitaker.
Throughout school, Mike enjoyed playing in sports and was a dedicated athlete. After graduating from Adamsville High School in 1980, Michael pursued his love for engineering by obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in this field in 1984. He had a successful engineering career working in local manufacturing facilities including one patent.
Mike loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed activities such as hunting, fishing, gardening, and being a handyman. He was an avid fan of all Tennessee athletics and proudly donned orange while knowing every word of “Rocky Top”.
Mike’s legacy of kindness will be carried on by many who were touched by his warmth including his two daughters, Brooke Sanford of Jacksonville, FL and Anna Goethals and husband Trey of Morristown, TN; son-in-law, Steve Sanford of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Jacob, Luke and Sam Sanford all of Jacksonville, FL, Austin Goethals of Morristown, TN; girlfriend, Debbie Swindle of Caruthersville, MO; brother, Jerry Whitaker of Athens, GA; sister, Sue Dills of Fairhope AL; and many extended family members as well as friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Whitaker of Lutts, TN.
