Michael John Melms passed away peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2022 at the age of 75. He was born on March 2, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Carl and Patsy (Mackling) Melms.
Mike attended Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio and graduated in 1965. He joined the Air Force in 1966 and was an aircraft mechanic at K.I. Sawyer AFB in Gwinn, Michigan. He returned home and joined The Springfield Township Fire Department in Holland, Ohio where he served as the Deputy Chief for 23 years. After dedicating most of his career to the fire department, Mike moved to Kissimmee, Florida to fulfill his dream as a monorail pilot for Disney World. He moved to Huntsville in 2022 to be closer to family.
Michael met the love of his life, Nancy (Silverthorne) in 1970 and had 51 beautiful years of marriage. He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Tracy) and Jonathan (DeeAnna), two daughters, Jennifer (Marlene) and Janelle (Todd); his brother Mel (Kathy), an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.
Anyone who knew Michael was touched by his outgoing personality, humor, and dedication to his family. He enjoyed camping, football, and spending time with the ones that he loved. We will all miss him more than words can say.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Spry Funeral Home, 2411 Memorial Pkwy NW, Huntsville, AL 35810, with a service to follow.
