Michael Dewey Lee Palmer, known as “Big Daddy”, was born on April 15, 1960 in Fayette, Alabama. Michael married Terrie Collins (deceased), and from that union, they had Terrie and Micheal (deceased). Later, Michael remarried Denise Pitt, and from that union, Michael gained a daughter, Devri. Although if you knew him well, she had his heart from the first time they met. It was during this union that they adopted four beautiful children: Malaysia, Christopher, McKenzie and Michelle. Michael was a wonderful husband and an amazing father. He departed this life on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Michael was educated in the Fayette educational system. Upon graduation from Fayette High School, Michael joined the U.S. Army, where he served as Staff Sergeant and received several medals and honors. Following his honorable discharge from the army, he became head of security at Riverbank State Park in New York City. Later, Michael moved to Tuscaloosa, AL, where he devoted his time to rearing his children. Michael was a great spiritual leader. He was a Pre-School Ministry Leader at Daystar Family Church, where he was given the name of “Big Daddy” by his godson Seth Kuykendall. The name stuck, and he was called Big Daddy” by young and old.
Michael always gave a listening ear and advice to all the youth that touched his life. Babies gravitated towards him because he was such a big teddy bear. Anybody who encountered Michael became family. He was a devout Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed collecting Dallas Cowboys memorabilia and had a vast DVD movie collection. Michael had a natural talent for cooking and baking for those he loved.
To cherish his memory, Michael leaves his loving wife, Denise; five daughters: Terrie (Jacob), Devri, Malaysia, McKenzie and Michelle; son, Christopher; grandson Jaydan; goddaughter Nadia: three godsons: Caleb, Micah and Seth; sister Rena (Newbern); three brothers: Dexter (Masumi), Napoleon (Julie), and Rydell; four sisters Darnella, Constance (Joseph), Angela, Sandra (deceased); five brothers: Timothy (Yuvanne), Billy (Patricia), Guy “GW” (Elaine), Jonathan (Catherine) (deceased) and James Curtis (Lettie) (deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW Huntsville, AL 35810) with Pastor Ross Kuykendall officiating.
Public viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
