Michael David Payton, 60 of Arab gained his heavenly wings Tuesday, June 20, 2023, surrounded by his family. Michael died peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy illness at the Marshall Medical Center North, Scant City, Alabama. He was born July 28, 1962, in San Francisco, California to Willard A. Payton, Sr. and Kathleen Allen Payton. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio and Arab, graduated from high school in 1981 and was employed for over 29 years at Cook’s Accounting office. A special thank you to Greg Cook for his compassion and continued support of Michael throughout the years.
Michael is survived by his son: Brandon Payton of Albion, Nebraska and a daughter: Nicole Payton of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers: Willard Payton, Jr. of Huntsville and Brian Payton of Columbus, Ohio; aunt: Judy Bagwell and uncle: Charles Payton, both of Arab; a very special cousin: Wendy Bagwell of Arab. Michael was preceded in death by his father: Willard, Sr., mother: Kathleen, grandfather: Rexford and grandmother: Nell Payton and aunt: Edna Payton.
There will be a celebration of life at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Madison, Alabama at a date to be determined later. His cremains will be laid to rest with his family at the Arab Memorial Cemetery.
