Michael Aloysius Hennessy – Obituary

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a longtime resident of Mobile and Baldwin counties, Mr. Hennessy died in Mobile after an extended illness. The consummate Irishman, cheerful of heart and generous in spirit, he was the proprietor of Hennessy’s restaurants in the LoDa Entertainment District and in Upper Crichton. He attended Decatur High School, served in the Army National Guard, and graduated from the University of Alabama, where he was a social affiliate of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a member of the 1997 class of Leadership Mobile and served for many years on the Board of Directors of BayFest. He was formerly a member of the Athelstan Club and a mystic society. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman L. and Rosemary P. Hennessy of Decatur; and his brother, Daniel M. Hennessy of Talladega.
He is survived by his beloved son, Michael John Hilliard Hennessy; two brothers, Timothy C. Hennessy and wife, Lynne, of Birmingham, and Patrick J. Hennessy and wife, Sue, of Decatur; four sisters, Molly A. Hennessy of Mobile, Bridget van Aller and husband, Hans, of Key West, Florida, Margaret “Maggie” Bates and husband, George, Lucien “Buddy” of Fairhope and Nora Hall and husband, Huey, of Decatur; his sister-in-law, Patricia Hennessy of Wilmington, Delaware; two nieces and 11 nephews.
Funeral services will be held April 1st at noon, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the Marian Center beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Association are suggested.
