Funeral for Merle L. Vernon, 79, of Danville will be Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Speake Christian Fellowship, at 12:00 PM with Rev. Francis Proctor officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery . Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mrs. Vernon, who died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born, April 17, 1937, to Charlie Wheeler Nelson and Mary Ethel Bumgart Nelson.
She was preceded in death by:

Mother – Mary Ethel Bumgart Nelson
Husband – James Hollis Vernon
2 Brothers – Charles Nelson and Jerry Nelson
3 Sisters – Virginia Thompson, Geneva Roden and Charlene Nelson

2 Daughters – Dawn Vernon-Cross
Daughter – Lisa Tanksley
5 Sisters – Lucille Flannigan, Hazel Kelsoe, Mildred Plott, Penny Hill and Irene Sanderson
10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
