Mr. Melvin Willoughby, July 19, 1933-August 31, 2025, passed away peacefully Sunday with his wife of 73 years, Sue Willoughby, by his side.
Melvin and Sue enjoyed many years camping and playing Bluegrass music. Melvin was a remarkably talented musician and an especially accomplished banjo picker. He and two of his brothers, Robert Earl and James, known as the Willoughby Brothers, performed many years on WJJM. Melvin also played banjo during camping trips with band members.
Melvin worked in the insurance business, was an excellent artist, and served in the Army from 1954-1956.
He was loved by his family and is survived by his wife of 73 years, Sue Willoughby, daughters Cathey Willoughby and Cindy Terrell, son Danny Willoughby, grandchildren, Brian Abernathy, Bonnie Rogers, Erica Wilson, Jeffery Terrell, Ashley Terrell and Becca Willoughby, six great grandchildren and his sister, Mamie Cochran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and J. B. Willoughby, three brothers, Robert Earl, James and Ed Willoughby and a sister, Ruth Barron.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Melvin served as a Deacon at Church Street Church of Christ for many years. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Church Street Church of Christ, 305 West Church Street, Lewisburg, TN 37091, in his memory.
