Melissa Joan Anders, of Athens, AL, passed away August 23, 2026. Mrs. Anders was born on March 11, 1976, to Rual and Joan Cornelius.
Taking care of her loved ones was always her top priority. Melissa grew up learning that from her family over the years. She grew up with a passion for playing softball, partially due to all of that practicing she got to do growing up with her father, Rual. Melissa was mother to two children, Brady Jent and Marissa Causey, whom she cared for deeply. She became a Gigi in 2026 with the arrival of her grandson born to Brady and Mikenzi Jent. Melissa took great pride when it came to her children, always encouraging them when they needed it most. Melissa was an amazing mom, daughter, sister, wife, and Gigi, and that love was seen by many.
Melissa has also played a huge role in many children’s lives, impacting their families as well. Melissa, also known as Sissa at Our House daycare, started working in childcare in the 2010s. She quickly began to become more involved in the center and eventually became director. The children and families who knew Melissa over the years will never forget the comforting gift and touch that she blessed them with. Melissa always lived with love for those around her, and her legacy will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by father, Rual McArthur Cornelius; and her grandparents, Elmer and Emily Cornelius, and John Riley and Mattie Florence Martin.
Mrs. Anders is survived by husband, Anthony Anders; mother, Joan Cornelius; brother, Matthew Cornelius; daughter, Marissa Causey; son, Brady Jent (Mikenzi); grandson, Noah Jent.
