Melba Patricia “Patti” Garrett Seibert, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away
peacefully at home on Monday, December 4, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, at the age
of 70. She simply went to sleep here on this earth and awoke in the arms of Jesus. She was
born in 1947 in Birmingham to J. Melba Dial and Ronald H. Garrett. She graduated from
Woodlawn High School in Birmingham in 1965 where she was an award-winning dancer. She
received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa and
Athens State University. She was married to the love of her life, Charles “David” Seibert, and
they happily shared over 50 years together. She was an educator for Limestone County Schools
for over 20 years and taught at almost every school in the system over the course of her
successful teaching career. She loved Limestone County and she was an active volunteer in
multiple organizations, including the Limestone County Retired Teachers’ Association and the
Athens-Limestone Beautification Board where she served as an officer. She was an avid traveler
and has traveled all across the US and visited many countries throughout the world. She
adored her students, her friends, her church, and especially her family. She was so proud of the
beautiful family that the Lord blessed her and David with and they loved her immensely and
were able to take care of her at her bedside until the very end of her life on this earth.
Patti was a devout Christian, strong in her faith, and an active member of Salem Springs Baptist
Church. Although she hated to leave her family behind on this earth, she was eager to meet her
Creator and made it clear that she did not want a mournful funeral service, but a celebration of
life. Her broken earthly body was cremated and will be dispersed into Mobile Bay at Point Clear,
one of her favorite destinations to visit and relax with her family.
For those who wish to pay their respects, the family will be available to receive guests at the
Limestone County Event Center at 114 Pryor Street in Athens on Wednesday, December 6, from
3-5 PM, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 5 PM. The Seibert Family invites all to
attend. Flowers may be sent to the Limestone County Event Center. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, the organization who passionately assisted with her care from the time she was released from the hospital until she entered her eternal home in Heaven. Patti was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, David Seibert; her daughter, Monica Seibert McConnell; her son, Chris Seibert and wife Tiffany Davis Seibert; and grandsons: Caleb McConnell and wife, Briana Looney McConnell, Carson McConnell, Brock Seibert, and Ben Seibert.
