Maynard Pless, 91, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Mr. Pless was born near Camp Hill, Alabama, the eldest son of David and Tyra Pless. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1960. Mr. Pless was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He also retired from the Eugene Water and Electric Board, Eugene, Oregon after 18 years of service. He married Lorraine Florence Bowden, of San Diego, California in 1948. She preceded him in death, and they had no children.
Mr. Pless was a Past Master and Life Member of McKenzie River Lodge #195 of Eugene, Oregon; a Knight Commander, Court of Honor and Life Member of Eugene Valley of the Scottish Rite; a Life Member of the York Rite Bodies; a member of the Al Kader Shrine Temple; a member of the Red Cross of Constantine and the Royal Order of Scotland; and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Le Lani Chapter #8, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Survivors include sister, Maeceille Beem; brothers, James, William and Gerald Pless; long-time companion, Eva Braun; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at First Methodist Church Chapel. The funeral service will immediately follow in the chapel with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Alabama or to Shriners Hospitals.
