Funeral service for Maxine Hembree, 80, will be Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mahlon LeCroix and Bro. Steadman Livingston officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hembree passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.  She was born March 9, 1946, in Morgan County, to Charlie Judson Nelson and Essie Lois Johnson Nelson.

She was a teacher for the Hartselle City School System, prior to her retirement. She was a wonderful wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother. She was a Faithful, active member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and she was certainly the hands and feet of Jesus! Maxine loved to read, travel to the mountains or the beach and was an avid sports fanatic. She loved cheering on the Atlanta Braves, but more than that, cheering on and attending all of the sporting events that she possibly could of her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and hosting special occasions for all of her family, especially celebrating a birthday or a holiday.

Preceding her in death were her husband- J.W. “Hobo” Hembree, her parents, a daughter- Mitzi, a great grandson- Barron, and three siblings.

Survivors include

Sons – Jeff Hembree (Leah),  and
Lance Hembree,

Step-Son – Gene Hembree (Marge),

Seven Grandchildren and their spouses,

Fifteen Great Grandchildren (One married),

One Great Grandchild,

One Sister- Susie Fisher (Danny),

along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jake Hembree, Wesley Hembree, Ben Kelly, Dylan Zehr, Jonny Pool, and Luke Hurst.

In lieu of flowers- family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to childhood cancer research.
